Back in my DVD selling days, looking back to last Wednesday, I remember a movie called The Science of Sleep, it was a movie about dreams, I think, I don’t really know. There was one review that came out saying “Beware of anything that claims to use dream logic”
It’s an excuse to be strange of weird in your movies or television show. One scene you can have your main characters talking about their relationship at a coffee soup getting their drinks delivered by a cactus and then immediately jump to a business meeting on the moon where your boss is your grade school friend but also a walrus. Anyone who has watched The Sopranos should be familiar with Dream Logic. In fact they did an entire episode dedicated to Tony’s dream.
Example
The reason I bring this up is because my experience at the Dolores Sparkles Iowa Burlesque Extravaganza had an extremely dream logic feel. I watched two women, one dressed as a pig and I mean head to toe in a pig suit not just cute pig ears while wearing a thong or something, dance and grind into each other, there was also a sad clown, a woman dressed as a sad clown dance and then sit down and cry after losing her balloon. A zombie dancer ripping open heads of Donald Trump in a failed attempt to find brains.
Let me make sure one thing is perfectly clear, this is not meant to be a criticism or a negative. This was just different. Strange but a good strange.
I‘m not to overly familiar with burlesque shows, the reason I went to this one was because my friends Rein (pronounced Rain. I was calling her Ren like Ren and Stimpy. I‘m an eddddiot) got into burlesque after a scary bout with breast cancer.
She used this as way to get comfortable with her body after it attacked her. That was what my take away for burlesque was. Like stand up comedy burlesque is for every one, every body type, every personality. But unlike comedy, which tends to fall into self deprecation this is meant to build you up. Empower you. I enjoyed that.
I didn’t enjoy the song about disappointing small penis’. THAT CROSSED A LINE! :)
I was not allowed to take pictures so I’ll share few of Rein for you.
Also, I will reshare an episode of Dogs I Saw with her.
This week I talk to my good Friend Rein Razor about her burlesque career. https://www.facebook.com/rein.razer.5 https://www.facebook.com/SUYPComedy/?__tn__=%2Cd%2CP-R&eid=ARBFWhRttxwwwBT9f2l3dSNSJ9t5DKHbm3xZeg797OFoCtFvhfjMd45Ofkh7jgIycEGwhQQ6bM7SWbYpAlso in honor of Rein here is where you can make a donation to breast cancer research. https://www.bcrf.org/?gclid=CjwKCAjwnMTqBRAzEiwAEF3ndmbB3c7HYwGwRM47WYeWEK8j_1BoPud4M4WSh4BcGS9-6gLTQQqLARoCmhQQAvD_BwE Also check out my blog at https://mvonhanen.wixsite.com/myweek?fbclid=IwAR3HZNx4QIpVRv5kN2gdbW4exvSamzhKfaVaUWYiuUv-ysRFmu0Cpq11-LA and my store https://ahabvanhelsing.threadless.com/?fbclid=IwAR3FE-XUdb7YLA6T2l9JGVq0h74pxlFAGBH5FZ6dCUII7fI-DpcQy8PQoRs Thanks
