Post # 7 Teen Titans Go to the Movies, Sorry to Bother You, Bombshelter, Mission Impossible

Hello and welcome to Post 7

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies

Teen Titans Go! to the Movies

So last week at the Office Space showing I won a free ticket to a movie and went with Ryan and his son to see Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

Marshal has never been so happy.

It was a fun night. Even with Marshal making fun of me the entire time. The thing I love about Flix is that they show little clips of related stuff before the movie starts and this night we got to see plenty of clips of Justice League Unlimited and Batman the animated series. My knowledge on these shows would rival the Simpsons knowledge I have stored in my head and every clip I would look at Marshal and say "ok so what's happening here is..." He would roll his eyes and tell me he didn't care!

So let's talk about the movie. I listened to a review on Monday where the person said that "it was good for little kids but that is about it." I do not agree with that. I laughed a lot and really hard! Yeah a lot of the humor was dumb and juvenile, unlike the refined humor of Dumb and Dumber I normally enjoy, but there was plenty of extremely clever and dark jokes that kind of took me by surprise. Also, most comedy's made today feel like they are mean spirited. This was just fun and lighthearted and I laughed and really what more do you need at a comedy?

Sorry to Bother You

So I wasn't planning on seeing this in theaters. If you've been reading my blog weekly I am sure you noticed that I tend to see the major summer action releases. A lot of that is because of what I have going on in my life. I am a student studying sociology and when you go to classes called "Intro to Crisis Management" and have to write papers on the death of Emmett Till I don't really want to spend my free time hearing more about societies ills. I get made fun of because I spend most of my free time at home watching Scooby Doo or the Simpsons. I still haven't watched Get Out yet. Mostly because of the subject matter.

Sorry to Bother You looked very similar, a good movie about race and I was interested in it but wasn't planning on rushing to see it. I'll see it when I see it type of thing. That was until Ryan approached me at work and told me that he just went to it and then started to explain it to me. He asked me if he could tell me how it ended and I said that was fine. He began to tell me and I responded with "What?" After talking to him I decided I needed to see it right away.

That Saturday Wes and I went a cool art house theater called Fleur Cinema and Cafe. I love this place! They have paintings on the wall of old movie stars. I always stop to find the Marx Brothers. Older movie posters adorn the walls and best of all they play movies like Won't You Be My Neighbor and Sorry to Bother You!

Sorry to Bother You could go down as the best movie of the year for me personally. Other movies are just goofy escapism this was making an actual point. Not only about race but also class. Not an easy film to watch and many people will not like it, 3 people walked out in our showing!

On a side note. How insanely hot is Tessa Thompson?

The Bombshelter

That night Wes was part of a show called the Bombshelter ran by Alex Carter and Toll McGrane, along with my buddy that I bumped into in Portland Patrick. Wes and I started the night off at Tacopocalypse. A place you have to visit just based off the name alone.

I got the nachos. I took a picture of them to share with you but it was kind of a gross picture but don't let that fool you. These nachos were spectacular. My fingers were covered in cheese and sour cream as I did my best to clean the plate of every last bit of food.

Before the show began Wes told me how nervous he was and how he thought all his jokes were stupid. It's funny hearing someone else repeat those same insecurities I have had so many times! But it didn't matter because both Wes, and Patrick, killed it that night! I also got to meet funny new people Matt Ziemak and Joan La Rosa Doyle.

Plus James Doyle yelled at me!

Mission Impossible: Fallout

So I saw a lot of movies that weekend. More that normal. My dad and I went to Mission Impossible and guess what? I loved it! Perfect summer action movie.
