Am I dead yet? Oh my God this week has killed me!
I normally like to do a recap of what I did fun the previous week but this time I want to do something new. I was playing on the website and found out how to track what hashtags have been the most popular. So far this has been the hashtag that has generated the most views to my blog. Which I guess that would be the one people have the most questions about.
VENOM
So last week nearly killed me. I get off work one day, go home, move stuff out of my house to my new place (dad's basement) and then back to home, then school, then moving, then class, then the I had to mow because Des Moines has entered monsoon and you have to mow when you have a chance. I left work early on Thursday and started moving for a good four hours. I ,of course, needed a break on Thursday night and got tickets to see Venom. I loved Venom growing up, crazy brain eating anti hero that he was.
I reserved judgement about a non Spider-man Venom movie, it is hard to separate the two but who knows maybe it will work. Then the first trailer hit and I wasn't impressed. I mean here was Sony's chance to entice everyone and the trailer didn't even have Venom in it?
The other previews came out and I got a little more excited. Nothing really blew me away but maybe it could be a fun popcorn movie to kill an hour and a half. That week, I followed the reviews and it didn't bring me hope. No early press reviews were released until late in the week. And then people started to make claims on twitter "It's catwoman bad!" The best review I saw was that it was entertaining but mostly stupid.
I meet some friends, Wes passed because he thought it looked so bad, we get our treats and sat down. There were a few moments at the beginning that made me cringe but as the movie progressed I enjoyed it more and more. About 30 minutes in I leaned to Scott and said "I don't see the problem. I like this movie." "Me too," he responded.
I had some pet peeves, I'd like to see a better villain than Riot, the CGI didn't seem to up to 2018 standards at times, there were some stupid scenes, I'd want to see more Venom (it took a little to long to finally see him). But the top of the list is Woody Harrelson needs a better wig. Was that character supposed to be a clown mascot for a burger joint?
Again, I ended up leaving happy and excited for more. I think this was a movie the collective decided to bash without seeing to fit in. It's not perfect but it gave me what I wanted. A silly comic book movie that entertained me. We all texted Wes that we loved it and he said "I feel like you guys are messing with me." HA poor Venom can't win!
MEGA MAN 11
On my way to sign paper work for my house I stopped by a target to get $30 in Xbox money to download Mega Man 11. Although I am awful at them, Mega Man has always been my franchise. Those were the games I always leaned towards growing up. Mega Man, then Mario.
Mega Man has some new additions to the franchise but it's still classic Mega Man goodness. For me personally it comes to to the new robot masters and I dig the ones that are more ridiculous. The dumber the robot master the more I will like it, right Sheep Man?
My favorite robot master in Mega Man 11 is Tundra Man. The ice themed robot who is an Olympic figure skater ? Why would Dr. Light think anyone would need that?
"I have an idea. I'll create a robot to help us in dangerous snow and ice covered terrain."
"That sounds like a great idea."
"And I'll put skates on his feet."
"I don't see how that could help."
"And he will dance like an olympic figure skater!"
"How does that help anyone?"
Flight of the Conchords HBO Special
I didn't know they had new music in the works? I found out about this about a week ago when they did a spot on Stephen Colbert. They performed their new song "Father and Son." It was a slow burn for a comedy song, in fact I was pretty sure that they stopped being a comedy duo and went on to straight up folk music. And then it kicked in and I lost it! That's how the special went too, they would start a new song and I would think to myself "I don't know." but then something would happen and I would bust a gut. Great special but wish they would have done more of their older songs
Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling
I'm only going to say that I enjoyed this documentary and didn't understand how important Gary Shandling was to
the comedy world. Plus he boxed Alec Baldwin? I never thought I would see that!
Shaun of the Dead
Good ole Flix Brew House is showing horror movies this month and Shaun of the Dead was on a night I didn't have class! Ryan, Scott and I grabbed tickets early yesterday morning (almost sold out already).
Of course the movie was great. What do I really have to say about that. But you know what else was great? The jalapeno popper pizza I devoured. It had a kick to it but a couple beers put out that fire.
All Moved Out
I breezed through the last couple posts because I really wanted to talk about being moved out of my house. The last week was grueling and arduous but the paper work has been signed and the check has been cashed. I survived, now I just need finish up these two classes. The entire move was a whirlwind, I didn't even have my house on the market and in a couple weeks it is sold? How does that happen? I bought my place when I was about 20 years old and for a while thought I would never sell it. I thought I would be doomed to live in this house forever. As the sale became more and more finale the entire situation became more and more bittersweet. Yes, I wanted to move on with my life but I did love living here and it's strange now because the next time I come barging in drunk I will get arrested.
