Christmas Tree Lighting
I love Christmas! I love everything about Christmas! Last Friday afternoon when Andrea told me she was going to the Christmas tree lighting at Jordan Creek I said "Count me in!"
She got there before me and held us three seats at the front of the amphitheater.

The Nada's started the night out. They played a few of their songs but mostly focused on Christmas songs. Watching kids dance around them as they played really helped get you in the Christmas spirit. Sadly, there wasn't any food vendors (I was expecting at least some hot chocolate) and I was starving so I ducked into the mall to get something to eat and missed almost all of Holiday Road from the vacation movies.
They played before about an hour before finally Santa showed up. It's funny watching a bunch of young kids dance around for five minutes before losing interest and need to do something else and then they see Santa and he just grabs their attention. "No time for you mom. This is important."
Santa was given the honor of lighting the tree. He said a few words about how excited he was for Christmas and pushed a large button, a shooting star flew across the pond to the tree where the entire thing light up the sky.

That was followed by a bombardment of fireworks!
It was an amazing night. I know many people will say "You shouldn't be celebrating Christmas before Thanksgiving." Stuff it! Christmas is the really fun cool guy and Thanksgiving should feel lucky just to be around them! Like me and Wes.
Icon
Icon is a local comic book convention that happens about every November.

I signed Kaylin and myself up for a booth, along with Scott and Trevor. We made plans to set up about 8 AM. I showed up about 9:30. It was too early for a Saturday for me.
It didn't take us long to get set-up (mostly because Scott and Trevor did all the work. Thanks guys!)

Soon the doors opened and people started to flood in. A man and his son approached our booth and I made some stupid joke and got them to buy the first and second issue of the vampire shark comic.
Then Kaylin started to steal my thunder! After a while couldn't give my comic away but Kaylin would entice young kids with her wonderful book with an important message. It's important to always be yourself! And many people would be impressed with the fact the she had written and published a book at only 15! You can't even drive kid, get out of here.

We had a lot of fun and I couldn't be prouder of her.

I normally take a little cash that burns a hole through my pocket but this year I couldn't find anything that really spoke to me but I did get a commission of Fonzie!
The proceeds go to a foundation that help abandnond and abused dogs find comfort homes. I will have more info on them on an upcoming episode of Dogs I Saw

You also have to admire all the costumes and there were some great ones this year!
One of my favorites was my friend Clifton who showed up as Super Mario who told me "I'm not really Mario. I don't want you to think I showed up in a pipe." If that's true why was he stomping on turtles?

Another one of my favorites was a young kid who dressed up as Stingray! I couldn't believe he went that deep into comic lore! His dad told me that Stingray was his favorite comic book character. I probably shouldn't have told him that Namor just killed him.

Also bad news for Jason Voorhees! He was bitten by the vampire shark!

Some other great costumes
Overlord
The first preview I saw of Overlord I was sold! This movie looked crazy. I don't know why I couldn't go opening night but if I had known Bokeem Woodbine was in it I would have canceled those plans. I've been a huge Bokeem Woodbine fan ever since he stole the show in Fargo Season 2.

The holiday movie season has officially begun and I knew if I didn't go last night I wouldn't see this in theaters and I still feel that's the best way to watch a movie. Everyone I asked to go passed on it so I went alone, got myself a beer and got ready for an awesome flick.
The premise of the movie is pretty much a What If story. What if Captain America was a Nazi and also one of those things from Decent and also infected with the rage virus from 28 days later.
The movie begins with a black and white logo of the studio and then a logo for the movie done in an old 1950s monster movie style.
I liked the cast for the most part but the Italian solider came off a little to much like a caricature. "Hey I can't fight Nazi's I'm making lasagna over here." He did grow on me though.
This movie is also insanely violent. At times on par with something you would see out of Troma movie.
My review for the poster? I loved it!
