Star Wars Symphony and Sunday Drive

Star Wars Symphony

For an early Father's Day gift I got my dad and I tickets to see Star Wars Symphony. This was mostly a gift for him because you know that I would never want to see do anything Star Wars related.

Ok. I am lying, I am a Star Wars nut, I mean last month I embarrassed my family by walking around in public dressed as the Rancor keeper.

I'm trying to break my dad out of his normal routine and took him to Hessen Haus, a cool German themed restaurant and bar downtown.

It was a place I figured he like just based off the ambiance.

He did ask "Is the food good?"

"I don't remember. I've mostly gone here for drinking. I haven't eaten to much of their food but I have thrown up in the bathroom... so probably."

We got there during happy hour and got half off appetizers and beers. We got one order of armadillo eggs, chicken stuffed with pepper jack cheese, rolled into a ball and covered in crispy bacon. While I waited I pulled out my phone and did some research and told my dad "armadillo's don't lay eggs."

"I know that!" he responded.

Both of our main meals came with a serving of Cup German Bier Cheese Soup. It was spectacular! It made me wish it was a cold winter day because it would have gone perfect with that weather.

After that we sneaked over to a cigar bar and had a quick smoke while we waited.

I said "dad let's get a picture." together and my dad said "Why?"

We then made our way to the Civic Center, funny side note, before we left my dad saw that I was wearing a Star Wars, Darth Vader T shirt.

"Are you really going to wear that?" he asked in his snazy collared shirt.

Walking in I bumped into this gentlemen

You're out of your element James! PS I also have that shirt.

Inside was filled with other like minded people, every where I looked I saw a Star Wars shirts. No one was dressed snazy unless Luke's white outfit is the suit and tie equivalent on Tatooine, I saw a couple of those.

We took our seats and the show began, it was hard to know where to dedicate my attention, this amazing symphony that was seamlessly playing every note in Star Wars or this iconic movie that I have immediately seen a million times.

It was a spectacular experience and I loved every moment of it. I was able to experience a timeless classic in a new way! This was more than a movie or a concert, the music played so seamlessly and perfectly that I would almost argue that this almost was more of a magic trick or a stunt. The force was with them this night!

Also, my favorite moment was watching people in the symphony craning their necks to see the movie.

Sunday Drive

Sunday my dad and I needed something to do to get us out of the house and we deiced to go for a quick drive. We picked Rock Creek in Kellogg Iowa. A quick drive about 40 minutes away.

A nice serine little lake. People were fishing and kayaking.

On the way back we stopped at Iowa's Best Burgers

Naming something Iowa's Best Burgers means the burgers have to be good!

I ordered one, with bacon of course, and it was very good! Just a good simple burger, nothing showy or fancy, but a burger doesn't really need that. A burger is perfect.
